Rust cannot be painted flat – it has a grain that stands proud of the surface. Corrosion Texture is an acrylic texture developed for exactly that: applied thinly where metal has rusted through, it accepts pigments once dry to carry tones from pale orange to nearly black. The result is a surface you can feel, not a coloured stain.

What it is good for
- Rusted-through panels on an abandoned vehicle

What to combine it with
Apply the texture thinly and tune the tones with pigments from the Pigments category – rust is never one colour. Add flaking grime with Wet Crackle Effects and moss in shaded areas with Moss Texture. Pour standing water around a wreck with Water Gel Swamp Green.
FAQ
Why only a thin layer?
A thick layer stops reading as rust at scale and starts reading as render. Real corrosion is tenths of a millimetre thick – even in 1:35 that is very little.
Do I have to use pigments?
No, but the texture alone is a single tone. Real rust runs from pale orange to dark brown-black, and pigments are what create that transition.
How do I clean my tools?
Water, as long as the material is still wet. Rinse the brush right after use – cured acrylic texture will not come off.
Can the texture be thinned?
Yes, with water or acrylic thinner. Thinned, it reaches into narrow gaps and around rivets.
