Metallics do not work on their own – metal needs a dark base, a mid tone and a highlight just like any other colour. Essential Metallics gives exactly that ladder: black metal, steel and silver on the cold side, copper, bronze and gold on the warm. From these six jars you can build any metal on a figure.

Why does my metal not look like metal?
Usually because it is one coat over a light base. Metal needs a dark undercoat and sharp highlights on the edges only – this set has both; it is a matter of using them in the right order.
Can metallics be mixed?
Yes, exactly like ordinary paints. Copper with silver gives rose gold, gold with copper a warmer bronze.
How do I thin these paints?
With water or an Ionic thinner. They are self-hydrating, so they stay workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop for brush work, roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the set better value than single jars?
If you need at least half the shades, yes – the set costs less than the same number of individual jars. If you are missing only two, buy them separately in the Ionic Smart Colors category.
The other sets are in the Ionic sets category.
