Mushroom Brown is a mid red-brown with a warm character – the colour of roasted mushrooms, mahogany and fresh rust. It is more saturated than the ordinary earth browns, so it suits places where brown should read rich rather than dusty.

Frequently asked questions

How do I paint mahogany?
Base with Mushroom Brown, suggest the grain with a darker brown along the fibres and finish with a red-brown glaze over the whole surface. Mahogany is about depth – a glaze creates it better than dry-brushing.

How does it differ from Brown?
Mushroom Brown is redder and lighter, Brown more neutral and darker. Use Mushroom Brown for wood and saddlery, Brown as the general-purpose brown.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
