Albus White from the Ionic Smart Colors range – a soft white with a green whisper for cloth and bone. Matt 20 ml acrylic.

Albus White is a white that does not shout. It carries a barely perceptible green cast, so on a figure it reads as material rather than as a glint. It is the safe choice for whole white surfaces – robes, cloaks, bandages – where pure white looks harsh.

What it is good for on miniatures

  • White robes and cloaks – a base coat that takes shading without going grey.
  • Bandages and wraps – thin it, glaze it brown and it turns into old fabric at once.
  • Bone and ivory – the lighter step of the bone ladder above Ivory.
  • Mixing highlights – a softer alternative to white that will not freeze the hue.

What to combine it with

Build shadows with Deck Grey and Fang Grey, transitions and highlights with White.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just use White?
Pure white over a large area reads like a bare wall. Albus White carries enough tone for cloth to look like cloth, and you keep white for the final edges.

How many coats over grey primer?
Two thin ones. Over white primer one is enough, over black expect three – better to base with a light grey first.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
