Frequently asked questions
Is size 0 the same across brands?
No. Brush sizes are not standardised – an AK 0 is not the same as a da Vinci 0. Compare the hair length and body width, not the number on the handle.
Base coat and detail with one brush – really?
On 28 mm figures, yes, as long as you keep the point clean. That is what the size is designed for.
How do I clean an AK synthetic brush?
Rinse it in clean water – or the matching thinner for enamels and oils – before the paint sets, work brush soap into the bristles with your fingers, reshape the tip and let it dry point-up. Never leave a brush standing in a jar. The cleaners are in thinners and cleaners.
Synthetic or Kolinsky sable?
Synthetic fibre is springier, cheaper and completely indifferent to harsh thinners, so it is the right choice for varnish, enamels, oils, pigments and every abrasive technique. Sable holds more liquid and comes to a finer point – that is the da Vinci brushes range. Most painters end up owning both and using each for what it does best.
