Despite the name, Desert Yellow is more a sandy brown than a yellow – a muted earth tone that reads as dried clay on a figure. It is one of the most used colours for desert bases and for vehicles in hot theatres.

How do I paint convincing dust on a vehicle?
Apply thinned Desert Yellow from below upwards and only on horizontal surfaces and lower edges. Dust settles – there is always less of it on vertical panels than on the roof and mudguards.
Is it a yellow or a brown?
Practically a brown with a sandy cast. If you want a real yellow, take Ochre or Golden Yellow.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
