Phantom Blue is a muted sage green-blue – calm, dusty and very natural. It does not read as a colour so much as light reflected from the surroundings, which is why it suits atmospheric shadows and cloth that should not draw attention.

What it is good for on miniatures

  • Atmospheric shadows – cold shadows on white and grey cloth.
  • Sage cloth – cloaks and robes in a muted natural palette.

What to combine it with

Build shadows with Light Blue and Dark Turquoise, transitions and highlights with Cloud Blue and Verdigris.

Frequently asked questions

What is such a muted colour good for?
Precisely for not shouting. A figure needs calm areas or the eye has nowhere to rest – muted tones are what make saturated tones read as saturated.

Can I use it as a glaze?
Yes. Heavily thinned it unifies an over-colourful figure and gives it a shared atmosphere.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
