The thickest of the ground textures. Where Wet Ground gives a damp surface, Muddy Ground gives real mud – heavy, strongly textured, the kind a vehicle sinks into. Lay it on thick, shape it with a spatula and press track and wheel marks into the wet material. For the Eastern Front, a spring mud road or a trench scene it is the first choice.

Add spray on the vehicle's flanks with Splatter Effects Wet Mud and pour puddles into the ruts with Puddles. Build drier edges of the scene from Terrains Dry Ground and add moss and grass from Vegetation. A green cast of standing water comes from Water Gel Swamp Green.
How do I build mud on running gear?
Apply the paste with an old brush from below upwards in irregular dabs and let it partly slump. Once dry, pick out the edges with pigment and spot-varnish the wet-looking areas.
Does the paste shrink as it dries?
Slightly, yes – it contains water. For a deep rut lay on a little more than the final shape and refine it after the first cure.
How do I clean my tools?
Water, as long as the paste is still wet. Rinse the spatula and the old brush right after use – cured acrylic paste will not come off.
Can the paste be thinned?
Yes, with water or acrylic thinner if you need it to flow better. Thinning costs it some shape retention, so go easy.
