Wood left outdoors for years is not brown – it is grey. The sun pulls the colour out, rain washes away the soft growth rings, and what remains is closer to stone than to a fresh cut. That is what Vol. 2 is for: four greys of varying warmth plus a brown and Burnt Umber for the places still sheltered. With Vol. 1 it forms the full palette.

What to combine it with

The warm tones of fresher timber come from Old & Weathered Wood Vol 1. Add moss and damp with Moss Texture and Terrains Wet Ground.

FAQ

How do I grey the wood without losing the grain?
Lay a grey base, draw the grain in Burnt Umber or Medium Brown and finish with a drybrush of Light Grey along the edges. Grey stays dominant and the grain stays readable.

Can the set be used on stone?
Yes, the same four greys work on cobbles and walls – pick the warmth of the shade according to whether it is limestone or granite.

Can the paints be bought individually?
Yes. These are standard shades from the AK 3rd Generation range in 17 ml bottles, so when one runs out you only replace that one.

Can they be airbrushed?
Yes. Thinned with 3rd Generation thinner they pass through a 0.2 mm nozzle as easily as lacquer paints. Neat, they are meant for brushwork.
