Frequently asked questions

Can a beginner manage NMM?
It is harder than metallics but not impossible. The key is contrast – NMM needs a far harder difference between light and shadow than feels natural. Try it on a small area first, a buckle for instance.

Why paint metal without metallics?
Because a metallic catches light unpredictably in photographs and often looks flat under display lighting. NMM has the shine painted in, so it reads the same from every angle and photographs well.

How do I thin these paints?
With water or an Ionic thinner. They are self-hydrating, so they stay workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop for brush work, roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the set better value than single jars?
If you need at least half the shades, yes – the set costs less than the same number of individual jars. If you are missing only two, buy them separately in the Ionic Smart Colors category.
