The coarser brother of neutral earth. The grain is larger, so once cured it leaves a rough, uneven surface that reads as rocky ground, gravel or a broken road at scale. It tints the same way – acrylic paint to your own shade – and, again, one mixed batch will unify a whole series of bases. Apply it with a spatula; the less you smooth it, the better.

What it is good for
- Rocky ground under a figure on a 25 mm base
- A gravel road or broken surface in a diorama
- Uneven terrain where the shape should read through the paint
- A coarse base under finer textures and pigments
What to combine it with
Add fine soil on top with Neutral Texture for Earth and sand with Terrains Desert Sand. Fix stones and grit with Gravel and Sand Fixer and colour the surface with pigments from the Pigments category. Add grass and moss from the Vegetation category.
FAQ
How coarse is the grain?
Noticeably coarser than the earth texture – in 1:35 it reads as small gravel and stones. It is not the product for a smooth road surface.
Can I mix my own material into it?
Yes, it takes sand, grit or crushed cork. That is exactly how you get larger rocks that the paste alone will not create.
How do I clean my tools?
Water, as long as the paste is still wet. Rinse the spatula and the old brush right after use – cured acrylic paste will not come off.
Can the paste be thinned?
Yes, with water or acrylic thinner if you need it to flow better. Thinning costs it some shape retention, so go easy.
