The Expansion Set is exactly what is missing after the Basic Set. Instead of more primaries it brings intermediates – earthy browns, a turquoise, a jade green, an ice blue and two metallics. These are the tones you would mix most often, now ready-made.

Not in a single shade. The two sets were designed to give twenty-four different colours together.

Which set is better to start with?
The Basic Set. The Expansion Set assumes you already have primaries – on its own you would be missing a clean red and blue.

How do I thin these paints?
With water or an Ionic thinner. They are self-hydrating, so they stay workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop for brush work, roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the set better value than single jars?
If you need at least half the shades, yes – the set costs less than the same number of individual jars. If you are missing only two, buy them separately in the Ionic Smart Colors category.
